2. Historical Context & Sound Design
In March 1748, a violent storm off the coast of Ireland nearly destroyed the merchant vessel Greyhound. In sheer desperation as water flooded the hold, slave trader John Newton cried out to God for mercy—a pivotal night that sparked his radical spiritual conversion.
To honor this historical weight, our arrangement of Amazing Grace avoids clean, safe production, grounding the song in dirt, grit, and the heavy reality of grace. Built at a deliberate 72 BPM waltz tempo, the track breathes with heavy acoustic builds, overdriven guitars, and sweeping dynamic shifts.
